Picky, so you don't have to be.

How we pick

Every Nitpick post makes one promise: a winner, the catch that comes with it, and who should skip it. This page is the method behind that promise, so you can decide how much to trust us.

Where the picks come from

We start from the question people actually type into a search box, then read what independent reviewers, long-term owners and spec sheets agree on. A product makes the list when several unrelated sources land on the same verdict, not when one glowing review does. Every post ends with a "Where we looked" list so you can check our homework.

We don't physically test products. We say so on every post and on the About page. What we add is the reading: forty reviews in, one honest answer out.

How the score works

Each pick gets a score from 1 to 5 in half steps. It is a judgment of the whole product for the people it's meant for, not an average of spec-sheet numbers.

The catch, every time

Every pick names its downside, even the winner. If we can't find one, we haven't read enough. "The nits" are the small things that annoy owners in month three; we list those too, because that's when you'd regret the purchase.

Money

Some links are affiliate links and may earn a commission at no cost to you. That never changes the picks: we regularly recommend products with no affiliate program at all, and the catch stays in even when it costs us a click. The full affiliate disclosure is here.

Keeping posts current

Prices and models change faster than reviews do. Posts show when they were first published and when they were last updated. Product links are checked automatically every week, and posts are revisited when a pick is discontinued, a price moves a lot, or readers tell us something's off. Quoted prices are what we saw at publish time; the merchant's page is always the source of truth.

Corrections

If we got something wrong, we'd rather fix it than defend it. Tell us what and where, and we'll update the post and note the change.

How posts are written

An AI research agent we built does the reading and the first draft, in a fixed house format that forces a winner, a catch, a "skip it if" list and sources. The standards, the format and the rules above are set by the person who runs the site. We think you deserve to know how the sausage is made.
